Lets Go 2 Morocco - Sustainable Responsible Tourism and Community Projects in the heart of rural Morocco

trek description

At different times of the year, this trek offers fabulous scenery and views. In early spring, the cherry and apple blossoms fill the valleys with clouds of white and pale pink carpets of colour. As the terraced fields fill with crops, they change from lush greens to red-browns and golds.

This is a fertile region where the Berber people grow an amazing selection of fruits, nuts, cereals and vegetables on tiny hand managed plots and terraces. Leaving Imlil we walk up the valley crossing the river to walk through small terraced fields and the Berber villages of Ait Souka and Tamatert, and through pine and juniper woodlands on rough paths that wind their way up to the pass. Looking back down gives stunning views below and up the opposite valley of Mzik with views to the passes.

There is plenty of time for the many photos you will want to take. At the top, you can take a freshly squeezed orange juice from the small shop before we will continue for another kilometre to afford better views of the valley of Imenane beneath and the higher pass of Tizi n´Tacheddirt.

After a rest and a picnic lunch, we will return to the village of Imlil or to your accommodation if you wish to stay. In Imlil we will have a break for tea and perhaps a tagine and your driver will be waiting to drive you back to Marrakech.

Itinerary

If you are staying in Marrakech, our driver will collect you at the appointed time and place and drive you up to Imlil village, the heart of the Toubkal National Park. After a mint tea, you will meet with your trek guide and start the ascent to the village of Ait Souka.

You will be walking through the terraced fields giving you a chance to see for yourself how these indigenous people work the land. You will then trek up through the adobe village of Tamatert and enter the juniper and pine woodland above. Views are exceptional back down the valley.

The track takes you through rocky wooded landscapes until you emerge at the pass around 2270 metres in altitude. The views are breath-taking.

You can enjoy a rest here. The picnic lunch will be prepared and you can rest under the trees. In the afternoon, you will return back to Imlil and your driver will be waiting if you wish to return to Marrakech. Approx. 4-5 hours of walking.
