trek description

Imenane and Imlil Valley are the two sides of one coin or two faces of contemporary rural Morocco.

Imlil Valley represents the modern Morocco with its extensive developmental activities, construction of new buildings, shops and restaurants.

Imenane Valley is an area where people still maintain to make their living in agriculture, planting and herding. The massive terraced fields of this narrow valley with the river splitting it in two halves, brings peace of mind and together with great panoramic views from every pass, create a wonderful background for contemplation. This is another of our excellent 2 day treks that really takes you into the heart of rural Morocco where you can discover for yourself the lifestyle, culture and wonderful friendly people that work these hillsides and valleys.

Day 1:  Imlil (1740m) – Tizi n’Tamatert (2270 m) – Imenane valley – Tacheddirt (2400 m) – You will meet your guide and mule team in Imlil in the morning. After a welcome mint tea, gear will be stowed on the mules and you will start the trek. The first objective is the pass you see up to your left if you are facing up the valley. The route passes the villages of Ait Souka and Tamatert and enters the forested trails up to the pass at Tizi n´Tamatert at 2270 m. The views back and forward are just outstanding! Rest here a while and enjoy a freshly squeezed orange juice form the small kiosk and soak up the views. From here, the route will drop down to the valley floor where you can have a lunch break. After lunch you will trek up the valley to Tacheddirt where the night will be spent in a local gite.

Day 2:  Imenane Valley – Tizi n’Aguersioual (2100 m) – Aguersioual Village (1650 m) - lunch near the river – Imlil then transfer back to Marrakech.

The second day starts with a heart local breakfast, mules are packed and the trek starts. You will follow the valley passing through several Berber villages; this gives you an opportunity to see up close the buildings, people and lifestyle as they go about their farming and daily routines, feeding animals and tending crops. The route then winds its way uphill to Tizi n´Aguersioual, here the views are also exceptional as you straddle the two valleys form this high point. The trek then descends, passing villages perched on the mountainside, to the roadside village of Aguersioual where your transport will be waiting. Lunch will be in the valley by the river. You can return to Marrakech or opt to stay nearby in one of the guesthouses in Imlil or another village.
