Itinerary

Day 1: Imi Oughlad - Tagadirt Ait Ali - Tinzert

We meet the mule team and our Guide at Imi Oughlad in the Imlil Valley where we pack up the mules and walk through local Berber villages. Here the houses are made with the local rich red earth and we walk through terraced fields of apple, cherry and walnut trees to Tagadirt Ait Ali where we have lunch. From there we continue our hike to the village of Tinzert 1400m.

Day 2: Tinzert - Salt Mines - Marigha - Tassa Ouirgane

After breakfast, we visit the salt mines in Tinzert and then continue our trek to Marigha. We have a picnic lunch; enjoy a rest and then hike up to our accommodation in the beautiful green valley of Ouirgane.

Day 3: Tassa Ouirgane - Assif Zagzaoun

After a hearty breakfast, we enjoy a day trekking through juniper and pine trees along the forested trails, taking our picnic lunch in a shaded spot and then continuing to reach Assif Zagzaoun where will stay in a local gite for the night.

Day 4: Assif Zagzaoun - Tizgui - Dkkent Valley

Rested and fuelled for the morning, we start our day immersed in the aromatic aromas of the surrounding junipers and the sound of the birds. Lunch will be at the Assaka springs in a shaded area under the trees. In the afternoon, we continue our hike in the Dkkent Valley to the village of Tizgui, famous for its Ahouach music. You will be in a local homestay for the night.

Day 5: Dkkent Valley - Tizi Oussem

We set off for our morning's 3 hours hike up through groves of walnut trees, fields of corn and barley to greet the many sheep and goat herders and women. We traverse Tizi n'Tagdalte to descend amongst the juniper trees until we come to a small spring set amongst the trees where we will stop for our picnic. Once refreshed, we are off down winding tracks of the upper slopes for some 3 hours to come to a small river at the beginning of the valley of Assif n'Ait Oussaden. From here we enter the village of Tizi Oussem 1850m, where will camp by the river.

Day 6: Tizi Oussem - Tizi Mzik - Imlil

We pack up the mules and leave this valley as we trek up to the pass of Mzik at 2500m. The views across the two valleys from there are incredible. On the descent we will stop for a picnic lunch and then continue down to the village of Imlil where your transport will be waiting.
